Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification 

For those with a baccalaureate or advanced degree from an accredited university wishing to become certified to teach in Arizona schools, Ottawa University offers a teacher certification program. The program is designed to meet the requirements set forth by the Arizona Department of Education for public school teaching. The Teacher Certification Program provides the necessary training, coursework and expertise needed to acquire a teaching certificate in elementary education (grades K-8) or secondary education (grades 7-12). Courses are offered during 12-week terms during the fall, winter and spring and also during an abbreviated summer session. Complete programs of study are available in the evenings and weekends.

Items needed for teacher certification program application:

  • Completed application and $55 non-refundable application fee
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2.5 GPA
  • Official transcripts from the school awarding your graduate degree sent to you from the school (do not open the transcripts, please bring them unopened)
  • Three (3) character reference letters from anyone other than family, including the following:
    • Name/address/phone number of person writing the letter
    • Name of person being recommended
    • The letter must attest to the following characteristics of the applicant:
      • Moral disposition
      • Honesty
      • Ethical disposition
      • Overall character of applicant
    • The letters must be signed
