Arizona Teacher Certification

If you hold a baccalaureate or advanced degree from an accredited university and would like to become certified to teach in Arizona schools, Ottawa University offers a teacher certification program for you. This program is designed to meet the requirements set forth by the Arizona Department of Education for public school teaching. The Teacher Certification Program provides the necessary training, coursework and expertise needed to acquire a teaching certificate in elementary education (grades K-8) or secondary education (grades 7-12). The program of study prepares the candidate for successful completion of the state prescribed pre-certification performance tests and a successful career as a certified teacher.

Courses are offered during 8-week terms that begin six times per year. Complete programs of study are available in the evenings or on weekends.

In addition to an undergraduate degree, students seeking certification in elementary education must complete a 50 semester credit hour course of study that includes 8 semester credit hours of student teaching. Candidates who seek certification in secondary education must have a teachable major (i.e. math, science, history) and complete a 31 semester credit hour course of study that includes 8 semester credit hours of student teaching.

Concentrations are available in the following areas:

Elementary Education - 50 semester credit hours
Secondary Education - 31 semester credit hours
Early Childhood - 54 semester credit hours
