Certificates

Ottawa University offers Certificates of Graduate Studies (CGS) and Certificates of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS).  The CGS is a certificate that can be earned concurrently with a master's degree or without a master's degree.  The CAGS is designed for professionals who have already earned a master's degree or its equivalent from a regionally accredited school and are seeking additional professional training. The CAGS is awarded upon the completion of a minimum of 15 semester credit hours of approved coursework, depending on your educational plan. Concentrations are available in these areas:

Counseling*
Expressive Arts Therapy**
Treatment of Trauma, Abuse, and Deprivation
Marriage and Family Therapy
Behavioral Health Counseling

*   Counseling CAGS applicants are required to submit a two-page essay on career development.

** Prerequisites for entry into Expressive Arts Therapy program:
    1. 15 semester credit hours of studio expressive arts courses.
    2. 15 semester credit hours in degree program.
    3. Application and interview with portfolio for approval.

Applicants for the Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) must be formally admitted to the program. Completed application packets are received up to the final day of registration for each academic term. A completed application requires the following:

  1. Application for the Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study.
  2. Official transcripts documenting the completion of an earned master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university, as well as all additional graduate work. (Transcripts should be sent to the attention of the Office of Graduate Studies or attached unopened to the application.)
  3. A resume' of educational background, employment and volunteer experience, and, honors and recognition received for academic achievement, employment performance and volunteer service.
  4. Non-refundable $65 application fee payable to Ottawa University.
