Ottawa University - Online was recently recognized as a leader in distance education when it received the Distance Education Best Practices award from the Association of Educational Communications and Technology (AECT), a professional association dedicated to improving instruction through technology. The award, which is sponsored by Information Age Publishers and AECT’s Division of Distance Learning, was announced following AECT’s review of the University’s online application outlining its “Real-time Orientation to Online Learning” initiative.
The Ottawa University Braves football team won the 2011 Buffalo Funds Five Star Champions of Character Award, which recognizes one college team in every sport for “exemplary character and sportsmanship displayed during practice, competition, on campus, and in the community.” The Champions of Character program, developed by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), teaches student-athletes the importance of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
Ottawa University finalized a collaborative agreement with the Arizona Association of School Business Officials (AASBO) during a signing ceremony on December 6 at Ottawa University’s Phoenix campus, 10020 N. 25th Avenue. The agreement allows AASBO members who have taken AASBO coursework through Central Arizona College to transfer those credits into Ottawa University’s Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration degree program, with a concentration in Educational Business Services. Students can takes courses face-to-face, online, or both.
Barry Pelton, Wayne Duderstadt and Steve Hasty have been selected to join the Ottawa University Board of Trustees.  They were selected by the University’s committee on trusteeship and appointed by the Board to a three-year term effective January 1, 2012. Wynndee (Shipp) Lee has been named vice-chair of the Board, being appointed to a one-year term effective January 1, 2012.
