The 2nd Annual Conference for Pastors and Laity is set for January 31 through February 1 in the Frederickson Center for Faith and Church Vitality at Ottawa University, 1001 South Cedar Street, Ottawa, Kansas. The conference is free of charge to pastors who register online.

The conference serves as an opportunity for pastors and lay people to better understand the meaning of the spiritual formation, “Becoming Like Jesus.” It will feature the Reverend Dr. James Bryan Smith who will give presentations throughout the conference that answer the questions, “How do we experience God in our daily lives,” and “Can we find balance in our daily lives?” Smith’s first presentation is set to begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Smith is a theology professor at Friends University in Wichita, KS. He is a writer and speaker in the area of Christian spiritual formation, and is a founding member of Renovare, a spiritual renewal ministry started in 1987 by Richard J. Foster.

On Wednesday, the conference will begin at 8 a.m. with worship led by the Reverend Joel Fredrikson. After lunch, participants will engage in an open discussion posing the question, “How can the church become a community of grace?” The conference will conclude with small group discussions and worship music led by Carlos Martinez at 3:45 p.m.

The Fredrikson Center for Faith and Church Vitality at Ottawa University was named in honor of the Reverend Dr. Roger L. 42’ and Ruth ’45 Fredrikson. The Fredrikson Center supports all student ministries on campus and acts as a gathering place in which theologians, church leaders, faculty members, pastors, and laypeople can come together to dialogue, study, conduct research, provide and receive consultation, and collaborate to advance the life and vitality of the church.
