Ottawa University is committed to recognizing the educational importance of learning that has been accomplished, whether that learning was achieved through formal classroom training or other settings. That is why Ottawa University provides multiple ways to assess credit for adult students that can be applied directly to your degree.

Credit may be awarded through any of the following:

Prior higher educational experiences.
Ottawa University values a student's previous coursework and is concerned that no student be penalized in the process of transferring. We accept up to 80 credits in transfer. All courses completed successfully at regionally accredited institutions of higher education are accepted at face value. Semester credit hours are not transferred for participation in varsity sports, remedial or developmental courses.

Training programs.
Specific professional develop training programs and seminars may be awarded as college credit in conjunction with the American Council of Education (ACE) guide. Students should present proof of successful completion for evaluation.

Credit by Examination such as CLEP, AP and DANTES.
Semester credits are awarded for the successful completion of examinations from approved national testing programs, including Advanced Placement (AP), Berlitz, College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), Excelisor, DANTES, Regents, and International Baccalaureate (IB). Semester credit awards are based on recommendations of the American Council of Education (ACE), wherever applicable.

Licensure or Certification in selected areas.
Ottawa University will award college credit for specific vocational certifications in accordance with the American Council on Education guidelines.

Military Experience.
Students requesting evaluation of military training must provide original documentation to the Registrar of the Ottawa University campus of choice.
