Special Education

The MA in special education concentration is designed to serve children with mental, physical, emotional, and behavioral disabilities. This degree meets all of the requirements for teacher certification in special education.

Curriculum


Concentration Courses - all concentration courses are required
24 semester credit hours, plus 8 semester credit hours of practicum

  • EDC 8303  Foundations of SPED Learning Disabilities Cross-Categorical (3 cr hrs)
  • EDC 8313  Introduction to Behavioral Disabilities and Emotional Learning (3 cr hrs)
  • EDC 8323  Survey of Special Education (3 cr hrs)
  • EDC 8333  Methods/Strategies for Teaching Students with Disabilities (3 cr hrs)
  • EDC 8343  Special Services in Schools (3 cr hrs)
  • EDC 8353  Assessment & Diagnosis of Mild Disabilities (3 cr hrs)
  • EDC 8363  Behavioral Principles & Disabilities (3 cr hrs)
  • EDC 8373  Best Practices for Educating Students with Disabilities (3 cr hrs)
  • EDC 8383  Practicum (8 semester credit hours) [3 or 4 disabilities]
  • HRC 7000  Statistics Workshop (no credit)
Elective Courses

  • EDC 7813  Structured English Immersion for ELL (SEI II - 3 cr hrs) 
  • EDC 8613  Structured English Immersion for ELL (SEI III - 3 cr hrs) 
SEI II and III must be taken before certification unless you have completed state requirements for SEI.
