This Focus Area is designed to integrate knowledge from a broad spectrum of fields of study and knowing. The focus is on students acquiring the skills to think critically and to solve problems analytically. These skills are applied to Ottawa University’s breadth areas as well as to deliberate and specific courses that fall within the arts and sciences or business. This broad nature of this major and the focus on thinking and knowing are skills that students can apply to any field and are the necessary skills for successful lives and careers in the 21st century. Studies in the Liberal Arts graduates leave with developed integrative critical-thinking skills and a proven ability to execute informed decision making processes. Graduates go on to strengthen their abilities in their current careers as well as prepare for entrance into new professional fields. Students are well prepared to take entrance tests in law (LSAT) and graduate school (GRE).
