Birch Playing Pro Basketball

Posted by Paula Paine on May 20, 2011 in Alumni, Athletics, "School of Education", "The College" Ottawa University’s all-time leading scorer, David Birch, has achieved his goal of playing professional basketball. However, it may not be what he originally envisioned. Birch is a member of the Washington Generals, the team that loses on a nightly basis to the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters. It’s quite a different way of life for Birch, who was used to winning often in his junior and senior seasons at OU™, when he led the Braves to back-to-back NAIA Division II National Tournament appearances. However, Birch’s pro ball contract allows him to travel when and where he needs to while he continues to work towards his Master’s in Education through OU-Online. Birch, a 2005 Olathe East High School graduate, was able to play in front of his hometown fans in February when the Globetrotters and the Generals played at the Sprint Center in Kansas City.
