Irish Poet

Posted by Paula Paine on May 20, 2011 in Events, "School of Arts and Sciences", "The College" Heralded as one of Ireland’s most important poets, Moya Cannon read from her works at Ottawa University on April 6 during an annual event coordinated by Professor of English Dr. Andy Hazucha. Cannon’s first volume of poetry, “Oar” (Salmon Publishing, 1990), was awarded the Brendan Behan Memorial in 1990, presented for the best first collection published in Ireland. Her other works include “The Parchment Boat” (The Gallery Press, 1997) and “Carrying the Songs” (Carcanet Press, 2007). “Hands,” a work-in-progress, will be published in November 2011. Cannon is currently a visiting professor at Villanova University in Pennsylvania, where she serves as the Charles A. Heimbold, Jr. Chair of Irish Studies.
