The second annual David C. Owen Leadership Institute Golf Classic took place June 11, 2012, at the Shadow Glen Golf Club in Olathe, Kansas. The event raised more than $35,000 for the Ottawa Scholarship Fund and the David C. Owen Leadership Institute. The four-person scramble tournament featured 100 golfers and involved more than 30 volunteers. Wayne Simien, former Kansas University All-American and NBA player, was this year’s honoree. He was recognized during the event for his athletic and servant leadership participation in “Called to Greatness,” a ministry organization committed to equipping college students in the Midwest with the tools necessary to discover their unique gifts and calling in life. The Leadership Institute was established in honor of David C. Owen, a 1960 graduate of Ottawa University. The mission of the institute is to develop servant leadership and coaching skills of OU’s business students, student-athletes, student-leaders, coaches, graduate students, and corporate clients. The winners of the 2012 Golf Classic were David C. Owen, Steve Dighton, Bob Walker, and Brian McDonald (pictured).
