Banking

Some students choose to open checking and/or savings accounts with local banks. Some banks offer accounts with options such as ATM cards, no minimum balance requirements and no monthly fees. Additionally, the Mowbray Union lobby has a Peoples National Bank ATM. Encourage your student to research each bank to find which best suits his or her needs.

Attractions

Old Depot Museum 100 W. Tecumseh
The Old Depot Museum, a two-story passenger depot built in 1888 and renovated in 1999, contains exhibits on John Brown, Victorian life in Ottawa and various traveling exhibits.

Dietrich Cabin City Park, 5th and Main
The cabin dates from 1859 and was built by John and Catherine Dietrich, one of the county’s first pioneer families. The building was relocated to the city park to serve as a pioneer memorial.

Franklin County Courthouse 3rd and Main
Built in 1893 by George P. Washburn, the structure is one of the last Washburn-designed courthouses in the state.

Downtown Ottawa 200 Main Street
The entire 200 block of Main Street has the distinction of being the only downtown block in Kansas listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
