Enjoy the Now

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34

New. My life has had a lot of new in it lately, and that can come with an array of emotions. A new job, new people in my daily life , and a new addition to our family has brought excitement, anxiety, joy, frustration, and a sense of overwhelm. New is good, but it can be a lot to handle. I’ve realized one of the main sources of stress from all this newness, is trying to figure out what’s next. I’m constantly looking into the future to feel on top of things, but a lot of the time, I have more negative thoughts and feelings when I’m already preparing for what’s next.

Lately, I’ve been rereading the book of Mathew, and was reminded of one of my favorite verses, Mathew 6:34: “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” God didn’t create us to be able to predict and plan the future. He created us to live in the moment and enjoy what’s in front of us. I thank God that he is in charge of our future and has a plan for each and every one of us because our short twenty-four hour days are full of enough to focus on and worry about. Life is constantly changing and will always have new in it, but I challenge you to stay in the moment.

What are you grateful for today? What is something beautiful in front of you? What can you control? What is out of your control that you can let go of? We are surrounded by God’s goodness, but it can be easily missed when our gaze is focused on the horizon. Take a breath, notice what’s in front of you, and enjoy the now.

Prayer
Open our eyes and hearts to the beautiful world around us, and let us soak it all in. Help us to appreciate all of your creation, big and small. Keep us in the moment, so we don’t miss what you are revealing to us in the present. We are so grateful for your all omnipresent power, so we can focus on one day at a time. Thank you for this gift.
In your name we pray, Amen.
