The Light of Christ

Day 20 - December 22, 2023

The Light of Christ

“Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over
their flock. The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around
them.” (Luke 2:8-9)

The glory of the Lord is going to shine again soon. And our Christmas lights, our Christmas trees, are glowing already in all the homes in our neighborhoods. We are glad of this tradition, because it is somehow the norm of this time of year. And the Light of Christ is stronger than any darkness.

This year I think of God as dealing with the world as if He must only respond to what his switchboard operator is telling him. Yes, the Middle East needs help, a lot of help, and Russia and Ukraine are still fighting. So when we in Kansas, in the Midwest, put in a prayer, maybe the operator tells God- not now, you have too many people to notice in other parts of the globe?

Or maybe God looks down at our Kansas towns and He smiles. Now here we have peace, and the Prince of Peace is sending down graces for us.  And we can share the light of Christ. We can be a beacon for others and other situations with the people we know.

Journal prompt:
Have others been a source of light for you?
How might you be a source of light for others too?

by Rev. Mary Donovan

Prayer
We can share the glory of the Lord as we pray for peace.
Prayer of St. Columba:
Be thou a bright flame before me.
Be thou a guiding star above me,
Be thou a smooth path below me,
Be thou a kindly shepherd behind me,
Today, tonight, and forever.
