Ottawa University Adjunct Makes a Difference for Cartwright Teachers

PHOENIX, Arizona - Trish Frehner, team leader and teacher at Estrella Middle School, saw a need and made every effort to meet it.  Frehner has been an adjunct at Ottawa University since 1995 teaching ESL linguistics/methods, multicultural education, reading, and instruction/curriculum courses.  She wanted to bring OU's certification courses to her school site for the convenience of her fellow teachers, and she succeeded.

The proposal was well accepted by her colleagues and was acknowledged by the school board. Because of her passion and understanding of the need for endorsements/certification, OU now has a cohort with the Cartwright School District offering ESL classes to their teachers on site.  This means the teachers don't even have to leave their building to take classes. Currently, there are 30+ teachers taking the course.

For more information on cohorts or adjunct teaching, please contact Director of Professional Education Programs, Roberta Diaz at 602-749-3171.
