"Smart" Guitarist in Concert at Ottawa University

 

OTTAWA, Kansas - Multi-styled guitarist David Smart will be performing at Ottawa University on Wednesday, September 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the University Chapel. Smart will combine his musical artistry, unique humor, and personal testimony in an hour of worship and praise designed for families and people of all ages. The performance is free and open to the public.

Smart has shared his music throughout the U.S., Canada, England, Russia, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. He has performed with such musical talents as Roy Clark; Phillips, Craig and Dean; First Call; NewSong; Larnel Harris; and many others. As a soloist, Smart has helped to lead worship and praise celebrations in many North American and European churches, including Robert Schuller's Crystal Cathedral.

With a Master of Arts in Music Composition, Smart has taught leading guitarists worldwide and produced numerous independent projects, including "At Long Last, Light," "Special Blend," and "Acoustic Christmas Cards." Smart currently teaches music with MidAmerica Nazarene University and Kansas City Kansas Community College.

Members of the community may also be interested in attending special University Chapel services at the end of August and in the month of September.  All services begin at 11:00 a.m.

August 30 will feature the Reverend Dr. John Gravley, Interim East Central Area Minister for the American Baptist Churches. 

September 6 will be the University's convocation service to honor 2006-07 scholars.  A reading entitled "Obtaining Life Success through Self-empowerment" will be performed by Student Body President Teranee Hutch; special music will be provided by Assistant Professor of Music Annette Oh, accompanied by cello student Mischa Lee; Interim President Dr. Fred Zook and Vice President/ Provost Dr. Dennis Tyner will confer awards; and Dr. Tyner will speak. 

September 13 will host the Reverend Dr. Heather Entrekin, senior pastor at Prairie Baptist Church in Prairie Village, Kansas. 

September 20 will include presentations by students who traveled abroad on OU scholarships, as well as those who participated in campus ministry summer camps. 

September 27 will round out the month with the Reverend Dr. Molly Marshall, president of Central Baptist Theological Seminary.
