"Little Shop of Horrors" on Stage at Ottawa University
OU Theatre presents a longtime hit!
OTTAWA, Kansas - Everyone's favorite Venus Flytrap comes to the OUTheatre stage on Friday, September 28th, for the popular musical "Little Shop of Horrors." The show plays September 28 and 29 at 8:00 p.m., and Sunday the 30th at 2:00 p.m. in the Larry Peters Auditorium on the Ottawa University campus, 1001 S. Cedar Street, Ottawa, KS. Tickets for the general public are $10.00; for children under 12, $5.00; OU faculty, staff and students are free; and family members attending with faculty or staff are $5.00.
"Little Shop of Horrors" features poor Seymour (played by Tyler Long, sophomore), who endeavors to save Mushkin's (Megan Redden, freshman) florist shop with an innocent but interesting little plant, which he names Audrey II after his co-worker and love interest Audrey (Emily Bryan, senior). The show quickly mutates into a classic when Audrey II becomes a blood eating monster, an evil dentist (OU Provost Dr. Dennis Tyner) is thrown into the mix, and a bevy of Doo Wop Girls provides backup. The cast numbers 27 in all, and every actor (except Tyner) is an OU student.
"Little Shop" is being directed by OUTheatre Director, Jeanne Chinn (Ottawa). Todd Burd (Gardner) is providing music direction, and choreography has been created by Alex Shaw (Ottawa).
Director Chinn invites the community to watch around town over the next couple of weeks, as posters of Audrey II consuming some of Ottawa's most prominent citizens appear on business windows and on campus. In addition, students will be offering real Venus Flytrap plants before and after the show for a $5.00 donation-proceeds will go to the theatre department for future shows.
