OU Sees New Student Increase of 80 Percent
Total enrollment this fall is 477
OTTAWA, Kansas - The final enrollment numbers for Ottawa University's fall 2007 semester are in and, as they say, numbers don't lie. The 2007-08 school year has begun with 220 new degree-seeking students on campus as compared to 122 last year. That represents a one-year enrollment increase of 80 percent. Additionally, the number of OU freshmen students who returned this fall increased by seven percent over the previous year. In total, there are 477 students at The College this semester as compared to 381 last year, representing a 25 percent overall increase.
Of the new students, those coming from Kansas in 2007 as compared to 2006 increased from 87 to 111; those from Missouri rose from 23 to 50; from Illinois from one to eight; and from Texas from 10 to 34. In addition to the 477 students on campus, the University also gained 14 music students from South Korea.
"This is a great accomplishment for Ottawa University," said Provost and Vice President Dennis Tyner. After achieving such an impressive one-year gain in enrollment, a major focus of the University is boosting the retention of those new students. "Our job now is to make sure that all students have a great experience both in and out of the classroom this academic year," he said.
