Ottawa University Announces 2007 Homecoming Court

Coronation to take place before homecoming game

OTTAWA, Kansas - Ottawa University is proud to present 12 students as members of the University's 2007 Homecoming Court during its upcoming Homecoming festivities on October 19 and 20. The Homecoming King and Queen will be announced during the coronation ceremony on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in the Ottawa University Mabee Center. The incoming royalty will be crowned by 2006 King and Queen, DT Dominguez and Tina Wilson.

The 2007 Ottawa University Homecoming King and Queen candidates are:

Emily Bryan of Scott City, Kansas. Emily is the daughter of Joel and Connie Bryan. She is a mathematics major and is involved in OUTheatre, MOST, Phi Kappa Chi, Alpha Psi Omega, Student Activities Force, and is resident assistant in Martin Hall. Emily will be escorted by Brandon Smith of Shawnee, Kansas. Brandon is the son of Mark and Barb Smith. He is a secondary history education major and is involved in Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Shoulder Pads and Paragraphs, and is a member of the Braves football team.

Jennifer Johnson of Tucson, Arizona. Jennifer is the daughter of Larry and Suzanne Johnson. She is a business administration and accounting major and is involved in MOST, OU Crew, and is a trainer for the Braves football team. Jennifer will be escorted by John Higginbotham of Iola, Kansas. John is the son of Ronnie and Debbie Higgenbotham. He is a theater major and is involved in OUTheatre, Pep Band, Ultimate Frisbee, Braving Discipleship, Drama Club, Braves Track and Field, and is the Lady Braves #1 fan.

Amber Evans of Paola, Kansas. Amber is the daughter of Susan Carter and Scott Evans. She is a business administration major and is involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is also captain of the OU Dance Team. Amber will be escorted by Matt Barney of Yates Center, Kansas. Matt is the son of Steven and Charlon Barney. He is a human services major and is involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a member of the Braves football team.

To be chosen as King and Queen nominees, candidates must answer three questions in essay format to be considered: Why did you choose to attend OU?; 2) What are your future plans?; 3) In what ways have you contributed to the OU community and how have those contributions affected your own "OU experience?" Five faculty and staff and five students review the essays and rank them one through six for both the male and female contenders. The top three male and female submissions are selected as nominees for Homecoming Court and are then voted on by the student body to determine the next King and Queen. Attendants are voted on by their student peers and join the King and Queen nominees to form the Homecoming Court.

The 2007 Ottawa University Homecoming Court attendants are:

Freshmen Candace Guzman and escort Jeremy Young. Candace is from Belton, Texas, and is the daughter of Sergio and Lynette Sauceda. She is a physical education major and is a member of the Lady Braves soccer team. Jeremy is from Drexel, Missouri, and is the son of Eric and Sandy Debrick. He is an early childhood education major and is involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He is also a member of the Braves football and track teams.

Sophomores Brayonda Powell and escort Andy Otto. Brayonda is from Leavenworth, Kansas, and is the daughter of Ishia Powell and Martha Tolbert. She is a biology major and is a member of the Lady Braves cross country and track teams. Andy is from Drexel, Missouri, and is the son of Bernard and Lisa Otto. He is a secondary English education major and is member of the Braves football and track teams.

Juniors Ashley Solomon and escort Jason Sullivan. Ashley is from Drexel, Missouri, and is the daughter of Art and Verna Solomon. Ashley is an elementary education major and is involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Kansas National Education Association. She is also a member of the Lady Braves cross country and track teams. Jason is from Louisburg, Kansas, and is the son of Robert and Miriam Sullivan. He is a religion major and is involved in Student Senate, Surge and Braving Discipleship.
