Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship at OU Boosted to $11,000

Junior college transfers to OU will benefit.

OTTAWA, Kansas - Ottawa University has upgraded a scholarship to the sum of $11,000 to be awarded to members of Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society of the two-year college, who transfer to the University's residential campus in Ottawa, Kansas. In 2006, the first year Ottawa University offered the honor society scholarship, students were awarded $1,000 in scholarship funds. However, beginning in Spring 2008, all new junior/community college transfer students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa will receive an $11,000 scholarship per academic year. The scholarship is unlimited and renewable as long as the student maintains a 3.0 GPA.

"This is an absolutely amazing scholarship and a milestone for Ottawa University," said Transfer Admissions Coordinator Scott Kirkessner. "We are recognizing the hard work, dedication, service, scholarship, leadership, and fellowship of thousands of Phi Theta Kappa students across the globe, and are committed to offering them a high-quality and affordable opportunity to continue their education."

Phi Theta Kappa was founded 90 years ago and has since grown to over two-million members in 1200 chapters worldwide, including the United States, Canada, Germany, the Marshall Islands, and the United Arab Emriates. Phi Theta Kappa's mission is two-fold: 1) recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students; and (2) provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming (source:  http://www.ptk.org/).

There is no additional application process to receive the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship at Ottawa University. A student's admissions application serves jointly as his or her scholarship application. Members of Phi Theta Kappa who wish to transfer to OU from a junior or community college may apply online at http://www.ottawa.edu/ or contact the OU Admissions Department at 800-755-5200.
