OU Librarian Receives Distinguished Service Award

OTTAWA, Kansas - Jan Lee, librarian and associate professor at Ottawa University, was recently honored with a Distinguished Service Award from the College and University Libraries Section (CULS) of the Kansas Library Association.  The award was presented to Lee during the Section's October 18-19, 2007, conference entitled "Library as Place: Collaboration, Advocacy, Technology."  The conference was held at the Hotel at Old Town in Wichita, Kansas, with more than 60 college and university librarians in attendance from across the state.

Ottawa University's Director of Library Services Gloria Creed-Dikeogu nominated Lee for the award.  "Jan is an exemplary librarian who is extremely knowledgeable, not just about library administration and process, but about complex educational procedure," stated Creed-Dikeogu in her nomination letter.  "Jan is greatly admired [by faculty, staff and students] for her academic prowess and solid library job-related knowledge, and is often consulted by outside librarians for advice."

Nominees for the CULS Distinguished Service Award must have made outstanding contributions to the library profession, contributed to the development of the CULS libraries in Kansas, and/or displayed exemplary service for an extended period of time.

"I feel very humbled to be honored because there are so many academic librarians in Kansas who are just as qualified as I am, if not more so, to receive this award," said Lee.
