Staff Position Description
Position Title: Instructional Technologist
Unit and location: University-wide Administration; Ottawa, Kansas
Reports to: Director of Information Technology
Position Summary
Provides organization and support to the University instructional technology infrastructure working closely with faculty at all University locations to provide the tools and training necessary to use technology effectively in the higher education teaching and learning environment. Position requires travel to all University locations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Organize and support the development, planning, and integration of University instructional technology initiatives. Identify emerging learning technologies with potential to improve the learning experience for students and lead the evaluation process. Research and recommend hardware and software for consideration for use in courses and research projects. Work with Enterprise Applications to assure that instructional technology infrastructure integrates seamlessly with other support systems used by faculty and students.

Advise and support faculty in the best use and integration of instructional technology to enhance instruction and create new learning environments. Encourage the development of faculty skills and experience to build technical proficiency. Using University approved quality assurance standards and guidelines, monitor online courses for quality and work with faculty to improve their courses. Provide opportunities for faculty to share successes and learn from one another. Coordinate the development of documentation and users' manuals for instructional systems as well as for the online teaching and learning environment. Develop and teach workshops on widely used learning technologies.

Work closely with User Services to provide accurate and timely end-user support and develop documentation and tutorials to assist end-users in successful use of e-learning technologies. Provide second-tier end-user support to students and faculty in the use of online learning environments and instructional technologies. Coordinate with User Services to provide effective and timely measurements of user and delivery systems performance.

Upgrade and maintain the online learning environment and related software to reflect best practices in the teaching/learning environment. Develop transition paths that assure that both users and faculty are prepared for innovative change. Coordinate the maintenance and upgrading of the online learning environments and related software to assure seamless transition for users and that both faculty and students are prepared for any changes.

Participate on relevant University committees related to technology, online course quality and learning system evaluations.

Provide leadership in developing policies and procedures that ensure a high level of support to users and also reflect the mission and objectives of the University.

Understand the University's policies and procedures and exercise judgment accordingly. Assure that University information is handled confidentially and ethically.

Provide leadership with those with whom you work through your conduct, attitude and professionalism. Represent the Information Technology organization and the University to faculty, staff, students and external vendors in a way that reflects well on the University.
Qualifications
Education: Master's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Educational Technology or related field. Five years of related work experience in higher education may be substituted.
Work Experience: 5-10 years general work experience required. Minimum of two years of successful experience working in higher education to integrate learning technology into instruction.

Demonstrated success at developing and delivering training to higher education user groups

Demonstrated experience developing training materials and tutorials in print and/or digital formats

Proven ability to work collaboratively with a variety of employee groups/users; primarily faculty members.

Experience with a learning/course management system e.g. Blackboard, ANGEL, etc.
