Staff Position Description

Position Title: Safety & Security Coordinator
Unit and Location: The College
Reports to: Director of Security and College Facilities

Job Summary

Position is primarily responsible for coordinating emergency management services for all sites including the implementation and use of the e2campus emergency mass notification system. Position will work closely with designated representatives at each site, as well as report directly to the Director of Security and College Facilities. Position will be based at the College.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor and review video surveillance footage daily from all locations.

  • Responsible for contacting e2campus to send out mass emergency notification when necessary.

  • Respond to emergency situations when necessary. Take prompt action to eliminate immediate danger to life or property. Make sure other security personnel are available to respond if needed.

  • Provide monitoring, training and control to systems and processes in cooperation with the Director of Security and College Facilities.

  • Maintain an awareness of route information such as building hours, fire and intrusion alarm status, and on-going maintenance problems. Stay knowledgeable of state fire codes, university safety guidelines, and policies governing university buildings.

  • Responsible for scheduling security staff to cover holidays, break periods and vacation/sick time of other security staff members. Responsible for training, professional development, assignments of duties and monitoring program progress for all staff members. Additionally, provide awareness training to Student Affairs/Residence Life staff concerning campus safety. Provide programming to student groups concerning safety awareness and personal protection.

  • Manage staff consistent with University personnel policies. Encourage collaboration among the staff and all departmental units.  Provide regular evaluation and feedback, and facilitate developmental opportunities.

  • Must work cooperatively with others providing courteous, complete and efficient service. Must maintain proper care and control of department equipment and vehicles. Participate in and/or provide training as required. Must have a positive work attendance, work in a variety of environments and climatic conditions, have flexibility to work evenings and weekend hours, and the willingness to work overtime as necessary. Represent the University in a positive and responsive manner.

  • Perform other duties as assigned and required which may be with little or no advance notice.

  • Understand the University's policies and procedures as they apply to your unit and exercise judgment accordingly. Maintain a high degree of confidentially with regard to records and issues.

  • Provide an effective and responsible interface for persons external to the University who are seeking information and assistance. Represent the University in a positive and responsive manner. Handle information in an ethical and confidential manner. Treat others with respect and service as a priority.

Qualifications

Education: Associates degree or equivalent educational experience preferred. Training in the field preferred.
Work Experience: Prior safety related work experience and more than 5 years related work experience required.
Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Work effectively with others through strong interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organizational skills paying specific attention to detail.

  • Ability to lead others effectively

  • Strong technical skills related to building services.
