Coach Read is currently in his sixth season as an assistant coach under head coach Jarrod Titus. Before coming to OU, he was a player/coach in Germany for two years in 2002 and 2003. He was the head coach for the Elmshorn Alligators in the First Bundesliga, Germany's top pro league. As a player for the Elmshorn Alligators, he led the team in batting average and was the starting catcher for the Northern All-Star Team.   While coaching in Germany, he was in charge of the pro, junior and youth teams.  In 2003, Read had the opportunity to coach the Junior All-star team from the state of Schleswig-Holstein.  Under Read's guidance, the team won their first two games in the history of the team.

After graduating from Bartlesville High School, as a two-year varsity starter, Read continued his playing career as a freshman at Coffeyville Community College.  While there, the Red Ravens won the Jayhawk Eastern Conference Tournament Championship.   He then transferred to Ottawa University to finish his remaining three years of eligibility.  Read was a three year starter at OU and helped lead the team to two KCAC Championships in 1998 and 1999. During those three years, Read was also a two-time all-conference performer, earning All-American honors in 1998. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ottawa University and earned his Masters in Sports Studies from the University of Kansas.

Read works primarily with the pitchers, catchers and the hitters and coaches first base on game days.  He is also in charge recruiting and the Head JV Coach.  He and his wife Antje, whom he met in Germany, reside in Lawrence with their son.
