Dr. David M. Barnes was recently named the dean of Ottawa University’s newly created School of Education. He will be responsible for building a nationally recognized education program offering bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. Barnes previously served as president and founding dean of the School of Adult Learning at Southwestern College in Phoenix. He brings with him two decades of experience in higher education teaching, leadership and community relations. “Ottawa University’s mission is to prepare our students to lead lives of significance in their professions, their communities and their relationships,” says President Kevin C. Eichner. “David’s blend of experience in the academic, faith and business communities makes him the ideal leader to help us realize our vision for an education program that empowers teachers with the tools they need to transform the lives of their students.” Though Barnes is new to this position, he is not new to Ottawa University. From 1999 to 2004, Barnes held several positions at Ottawa University, including associate professor of education, vice president for adult and professional studies, vice president of enrollment management, and provost of OU’s Arizona campuses.
Barnes will be based in Phoenix but will oversee the School of Education for the entire University.
