While no stranger to France, Dr. Murle Mordy, OU foreign language professor, has never been recognized internationally for his vast knowledge of the country. Until now that is. Mordy recently received a certificate from the French Consulate certifying that he was officially awarded the Ordre des Palmes Académiques (Order of the Academic Palms), with the degree of Chevalier (knight) for his distinguished contributions to French education and culture. The Order of the Academic Palms is an Order of Chivalry of France for academics and cultural and educational figures. Originally a decoration founded by Emperor Napoléon to honor eminent members of the University of Paris, it was established as an order in 1955 by President René Coty. Mordy was nominated by the executive director of the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) for his long service to the AATF and to French education. Only 10-12 Americans are nominated every year.
