Ottawa University campuses spread a lot of good cheer over the holiday season. For two weeks in November, the Arizona Phoenix campus gathered food for the St. Mary’s Thanksgiving Food Bank. Six large boxes of food were collected. “We were so excited by the amazing response of our employees to this great cause,” said Assessment Projects Coordinator Daniel Eckstrom. OU-Indiana repeated their Toys for Tots drive, collecting 141 toys by December 14. In addition to toys, hats, mittens, gloves, and scarves also graced the stockings of Marine children. According to the Marine who picked up the toys from the campus, OU-Indiana collected the most toys in the area, with the exception of the Census Bureau and Amazon. The College adopted two large families through ECKAN, one with nine children and the other with six. A total of 86 gifts were provided for both families, plus nonperishable food for a holiday meal. The Kansas City campus spearheaded several charitable efforts during the season. Students, faculty and staff collected 224 pounds of food for Harvesters, which provided 173 meals. They also adopted a family of five and successfully collected all the items on the family’s Christmas list. Finally, the campus collected a large box of toys for the Marines’ Toys for Tots drive. OU-Wisconsin hosted a giving tree and conducted a food drive to share their blessings over the holidays. Students, faculty, adjuncts, and staff members fulfilled the gift wishes of older adults at VMP Manor Park by selecting tags from the giving tree. They also collected food that was donated to a local women’s shelter.
