Joe ’04 and Shelby ’06 Greemore announced the birth of their son, Greyson Lee, on July 14, 2012. Cade and Amanda Rensink ’04 announced the birth of Colyer Brion on February 23, 2012. Jeff and Heather (Hawkins) Jones ’05 announced the birth of their son, Matthew Drennon, on October 5, 2012.
Marney Davis ’04 married Nathan Hetrick on July 21, 2012. They now live in Portales, New Mexico, where Nathan is stationed with the U.S. Air Force.
Mary Ruth Schendel ’36 died on July 20, 2012, at the age of 97. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ryle Schendel ’36. She is survived by four children, Nancy Morgan ’63, Jane Baum, Sarah Schendel ’68, and Robert Schendel; son-in-law John Potter; seven grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren. Rev. Rene Sweezey ’38 died November 18, 2012. She is survived by two daughters, Rita Matthews and LaDonna Dickson; a granddaughter, Jennifer Kirk; three great granddaughters; and two great-great granddaughters. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Harold W. Sweezey and daughter, Lark Johnson. Janette Christensen Talley ’45 died September 27, 2012. She is survived by her husband, Tyra ’45; daughter, Mischelle; and three sons, Dee, Arlan and Doug. Maurice Julian Sharp ’49 died June 18, 2012, at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn ’50; sons Maury, David, Douglas, and Daniel; twin Murray; sister Maxine Grebbien; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Geraldine “Jerri” Frazzini Rowlands Bottomly ’51 died December 9, 2012, in Seattle, Washington. She is survived by her husband, Forbes; daughter Kathy Bong; and grandsons Kevin and Roger Bong. Dorothy (Staadt) Linton ’52 died September 1, 2011. She is survived by her son, Warren; daughters Barbara Kruger and Beth King; one grandson; four granddaughters; and one great grandson. Robert V. Pence ’52 died August 5, 2012, in Garnett, Kansas. He is preceded in death by wife Annabelle Bowers Platt ’68. He is survived by six children, Cynthia Pence McLean, Bruce Pence, Steven Pence, Randall Platt and Carla Platt; one sister, Glennyce Porter; five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Ronald Christensen “Chris” Dowell ’54 died November, 5, 2012, after a long bout with cancer. Joanne (Smith) Meiers ’54 died October 5, 2012, at the age of 80. She is survived by her husband, Dick Meiers ’53. Maxine (Morrison) Haug ’57 died April 17, 2012, at the age of 76. She is survived by her husband, Ron ’57; daughters Julia Moye and Jennifer O’Neil; son Richard Haug; grandchildren and great grandchildren. Glenita Martin ’59 died September 27, 2012. She is survived by daughters Sue Nasse ’88 and Joan Burke, four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Donald E. Welton ’60 died December 11, 2012. He is survived by sons Robert and Hiram, daughters Rebecca and Jean, eight grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Larry J. Krebbs ’61 died December 3, 2012. He was a high school and junior high school teacher and coach for more than 40 years. He is survived by three sons, Troy, Tim and Tracy; a brother, Jon ’64; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Danne C. Schultz ’63 died September, 16, 2012. Survivors include his children, Forrest, C. Gregory and Gerald; grandchildren and great grandchildren. Verna Winchester ’64 passed away July 14, 2012, in Canyon Lake, Texas. Verna was preceded in death by her husband and eldest son. Survivors include a son, David, and his wife, Cyndi. Gerard (Gerry) P. Benedict ’68 died May, 11, 2012, at the age of 65. Gerry is survived by his wife, Susan; sons Todd, Jason and Ian; daughters Shannon, Jana Benedict-Karjohn and Cara; two grandchildren; parents the Rev. Dan and Edith Benedict; brothers the Rev. Dan Jr., Dexter and Steven; sisters Becky Bialaszewski, Ruth Rose, Rachel Doan and Esther; and many other members of his extended family. Mary M. Strattan ’75 died November, 29, 2011. Carla Maureen (Platt) James ’82 died December 8, 2012. She is survived by her husband, Larry; children Randall, Troy, Talya, Tara, Trevin, Trenton, Trevor, Toiya, and Todd; and 29 grandchildren. James “Jim” Boone ’90 passed away August 7, 2012, in Rogers, Arkansas. Jim worked as a teacher and coach for 22 years. Amy Jo Turner ’08 died Nov. 16, 2012, at the age of 28. She is survived by her parents, Richard and Dee; sisters Meredith Willis and Cora Harris; paternal grandparents Robert and Georgia; three nieces, Raven, Ally and Madison; a nephew, Seth; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Dale and Bonnie Brumley.
50s Inez Frear, wife of the late William “Bill” Frear ’50, celebrated her 90th birthday in September at Village West Retirement Home in Ottawa, Kansas. 60s Robert W. Wallace ’66 announces the release of his third collaborative work, Spy Sites of New York City. Hoyt Sherwin ’67 is retired and living on the Oregon Coast near Lincoln City. Moor ’85 accepted a new teaching position as senior lecturer and coordinator of college learning strategies at Idaho State University. 90s Amanda (Tiegreen) Hale ’94 was named the Business Person of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce in Fort Scott, Kansas. The award is presented to professionals who personify all the traits desired in a great business person: a dedication to their business, their community and their family and friends. 00s Dave Burns ’06 recently published the third book in his “The Movement Series” on Amazon Kindle. Carrie Moline ’06 AZ watched her daughter, Georganne Moline, place fifth in the 400-meter hurdles finals of the 2012 Olympics, where she received a personal record time of 53.92. The school where Carrie teaches fifth grade raised the funds to send Georganne and Carrie to London. Eboni Fondren ’00 participated in the Salina Symphony production of “Celebrate America” at the Stiefel Theatre in November. Last spring, Fondren made her Kansas City Repertory Theatre debut as Ronette in “Little Shop of Horrors.” Joel Moenkhoff ’99-’00 was awarded the George Fox New Member Kiwanian of the Year award at the Kiwanis Annual Meeting on October 12. His wife is an NFL Cheerleader and he is a collegiate referee for four different conferences.
