Ottawa University seniors bring home first place awards at annual DECA competition

Posted by Janae Melvin on April 4, 2017 in Ottawa University DECA business students competed in the annual Kansas DECA State Career Competition held at Fort Hays State University on February 17. The competition is open to all regional schools and approximately 50 students from five universities participated. DECA case competitions allow students to select a specific business category prior to the event, and on the day of the competition are presented with the case of the day. After receiving the case, students have one hour to prepare and 15 minutes to present their case to a panel of judges.

OU students had a strong showing at the competition with two duos placing first in their respective divisions. Seniors Austin Blaue and Joseph Siegele selected Financial Statement Analysis and took home first prize. Seniors Chisholm Branscum and Elyssa Esposito selected Business Ethics and won first place. This was a great opportunity for our business students to apply their knowledge and skills and compete against the local colleges represented.
