Ottawa Universtiy Dance Team
The Ottawa University Dance Team performs at most home football and men's basketball games. The team regularly practices Sunday and Wednesday evenings as well as Tuesday and some Thursday mornings. The school provides uniforms and poms. Team members should plan to purchase shoes and accessories, though often the funding may be available to pay for most of these expenses.
Try-outs are held in spring, usually in April. If scheduling conflict exists with the try-out dates, then performance videotapes may be accepted by permission of the dance team coach. Private auditions could be scheduled in rare situations. Some years there may also be a fall try-out in August if all positions on the team have not been filled.
Dancers are judged on dance performance skill level, leaps, turns, toe touch, dance technique, appearance, enthusiasm, and memorization. Dancers will learn and perform a short dance taught the day of the try-outs.
Scholarships are available for those who meet qualifications and maintain participation in this student activity.
