“Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures.” Psalm 119: 89-90
After the pandemic, the services at church restarted. Many were missing or staying home. The Church Council decided to reduce the number of services; we had five before and now just three.
We have had to come back together; the spot where you usually sit is filled with another family. The musicians are all mixed together. There are faces you do not know.
The change has been hard and also good. Suddenly we are a full church; more voices singing and more people in fellowship. Yes, some things are not the same; we miss our favorite song leader or the spot by the stained glass window. There is now a new song to learn and a new person to meet. Hard things for community to do and maybe, that is good too.
Let this Advent season be a chance to revisit a recent change in your life. With prayer and reflection, what piece of the change asks you to grow, asks you to change your thinking? Bring that to God, or even share your thoughts with a friend. Seek new ways, and look for the good God is bringing you in the change. Don’t forget to allow yourself to miss the way things were before too. We can do both; we can miss the familiar and welcome the new.

Prayer
Dear God, as we bring our prayers to you, we ask that you might heal the hurt that comes from change and help us in our healing to find the strength to continue to seek ways to learn and be part of your goodness, even in times of change and within the unfamiliar. Help us to bring your grace to others and to accept the grace they give too. Lord, bring us together, in your name, Amen.
