Franklin County Campaign

Which is fitting, considering there are more than 55 Franklin County students enrolled at Ottawa University this academic school year. “Support from the local community continues to grow and the University is proud of the mutual relationship being built,” says Brooke Riffel, director of annual giving at Ottawa University. “This relationship opens up many opportunities for Ottawa University students, as well as opportunities for the community to be involved with the University.” The advancement team kicked off the campaign in October with a luncheon for volunteers, donors and community business leaders. During the luncheon, the University presented the first annual Ottawa University Community Partnership Award to Dan ’92 and Stacy Hinman ’89, owners of two local Subway restaurants and strong supporters of OU. Local students will receive more than $550,000 in annual and endowed scholarships in 2011-12, much of which comes from local businesses and community members through the Franklin County Campaign. Included in those scholarship funds is a $2,000 award for Franklin County students who live on campus, as well as for the Ottawa High Achiever Award – a four-year, full-tuition, competitive scholarship that goes to one Ottawa High School graduate each year. “The Franklin County Campaign has grown so much throughout the past few years, and we are grateful for the hundreds of donors within the community for all of the support they’ve shown Ottawa University and students from Franklin County,” said Riffel. To help with the campaign, the advancement team hit the streets again this year to raise awareness and to hand out signs to local businesses and community members. The “We Support OU” signs can be spotted in the window front of virtually every business in downtown Ottawa, many of which offer discounts to OU students and staff.
