It is the highest place an OU club team has finished at the national tournament. Twenty members of the team participated in the tournament – 18 women and two men. The squad performed a routine with choreographed tumbling, jumps and dance moves, as well as a 45-second cheer portion. The team improved on their preliminary score of 80.08 with an 81.68 for the third place finish. Missouri Valley College won the national championship with an 84.13. Indian Wesleyan University finished second at 83.55. “The coaching staff and team are so proud of our third place finish. We’ve all worked extremely hard this year, and it was such a rewarding experience to represent OU at the national level,” said Graduate Assistant Coach Libby Bettin. “We look forward to continuing to build the success of our programs and making more national appearances in the future.” The squad earned a gold bid to the national tournament after winning the regional tournament in Oklahoma City, winning the division and earning the top score overall. A gold bid covers all hotel and registration costs. The team is coached by first year Coach Shayla Jacob and Graduate Assistant Bettin. Watch the cheer squad’s winning performance at Nationals here:
