On February 6, former Prime Minister of Canada John N. Turner spoke to students, faculty and administrators at Ottawa University Arizona as part of his trip to Surprise, AZ.

During his presentation, Turner emphasized the importance of getting involved in not just school but all aspects of life. He highlighted the importance of getting involved in democratic institutions and how important it is for each person to participate in the democratic process.

Later that evening, Dr. Dennis Tyner, vice president and provost of OUAZ, hosted Turner, members of the City of Surprise, select students and other guests for dinner at his home.

Turner was the 17th Prime Minister of Canada, serving from June 30 to September 17, 1984.
