Braves Softball Team Caps off Season with Trip to World Series

Posted by Janae Melvin on June 28, 2017 in The Ottawa University capped off an incredible season with the program’s first ever win at the NAIA World Series after the Braves defeated no. 19 Warner University 4-2 during the first game of the series.

Following the opening game victory, the Braves faced off against no. 3 Columbia in a game that went into extra innings and saw OU fall just short with a 2-1 loss. The season ended for the ladies in elimination game against no. 8 Davenport 4-0. This was the third trip to the NAIA World Series in program history.

The Braves finished the season with a school record 40 wins (40-19) and won its first KCAC regular season championship since 2010 with a record of 18-4. After starting KCAC play 1-4, the Braves won 17 straight regular season games to win the KCAC Championship. The Braves finished its win streak at 18 after a loss in the second game of the KCAC Tournament. OU was 9-10 this season against NAIA nationally ranked teams.

Senior pitcher Molli Morgan earned Second Team NAIA All-American honors and was named to the 2017 All-World Series team.
