Ottawa University Achieves All-Steinway Designation

Posted by Janae Melvin on June 28, 2017 in This spring, Ottawa University learned that it had received the prestigious All-Steinway Designation, joining a select group of colleges and universities around the world. OU becomes only the third school in the state of Kansas to achieve this distinction, joining Benedictine College in Atchinson and Kansas State University. As an All-Steinway School, OU will use only Steinway & Sons pianos in all aspects of performance and teaching.

“The naming of Ottawa University as an All-Steinway School is a testament to the ongoing commitment of absolute excellence in music we have here,” said Dr. Michael Pagan, interim chair of the music department. “It is a momentous, historic occasion, and truly a time to celebrate, as well as to give sincere thanks to all who have supported this dream into reality.”

As part of the process towards becoming an All-Steinway School, OU completed a lease/purchase program to purchase 10 Steinway or Steinway-built pianos. Steinway is known throughout the world for its high standard of excellence and its products are considered the best keyboard instruments for training students.

“This distinction to the college and the music program in particular is a true testament to the tremendous financial support we receive from our alumni and friends,” said Paul Bean, vice president for University Advancement.
