Many registered nurses who have graduated from Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or diploma programs are returning back to school to earn their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree in order to fulfill their personal and/or career goals, as well as to likely increase their overall earning potential.
There are additional outside influences that have impacted the reason many of these nurses are seeking a BSN completion educational program: national organizations such as the Institute of Medicine (IOM) and the American Nurses Association (ANA) are advocating and supporting initiatives to increase the number of BSN-prepared nurses at the patient’s bedside. This is being heard by many health care-related facilities, including hospital employers.
Earning a BSN degree will not only assist you with opening the door to your future career opportunities, but may serve to satisfy your current employer’s organizational objectives, and ultimately the overall profession’s goals for obtaining a higher educated nursing work force.
NOTE: Ottawa University Nursing will host an on-site reaccreditation visit by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) for its reaccreditation of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program on September 9-11, 2019.
CCNE provides the opportunity for program constituents (students, faculty, alumni, employers, health care institutions and the public) to submit, in writing, comments concerning the program’s qualifications for reaccreditation status. Written third-party comments will be received by CCNE until 21 days before the scheduled on-site evaluation.
You are invited to share your comments regarding the Ottawa University BSN program to CCNE by August 19, 2019. CCNE shares third-party comments only with the evaluation team. At no time during the review process are these comments shared with the hosting program.
