Day 4 - December 6, 2017

Practicing Advent Year-round

“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” Ephesians 5:15-17 ESV

It’s crazy Advent is already here. The time of anticipation, celebration, and preparation for the birth and return of Christ Jesus is upon us. I must admit, I am constantly being surprised with how quickly time is ticking by. I have counted on key indicators, such as the leaves changing color and the ending of KCAC conference play, to tell me Advent is coming. Last year I completed my competitive career as a soccer player. Man, I miss the feeling of going to practice and playing the game. And, on this late October day the leaves remain green. I feel as if Fall is being skipped without vibrant red, popping orange and smiling yellow leaves holding on to the branch until the wind carries them away. So, my indicators are no longer prepping me for my time of upcoming preparation. The reality is, Advent is a time of increased intentionality. As Christians we want to be practicing Advent year-round, for we do not know the Lord’s plan for us and the world. All we know is God is good. He is loving. He created us. He is constant. He sacrificed His Son, Jesus for you. Hallelujah!

Lord, Loving Father, help us to be intentional Christians living lives of eternal preparation and celebration. Give us the courage and strength to be consistent and constant for You in an ever changing world. We thank you for the life of Jesus, and the life gained through him now and forever, Amen.
