Day 4 - February 17, 2018

Warned and Still Not Ready!

Matthew 24:42-44

Well, the pipes froze, again! Kansas…even colder than normal and a 125-year-old house. I knew all the ‘right things’ to do, but the temperature dropped so fast and I was really busy. The weather guy warned on the news. My friends chatted about the pending cold spell. I had strong intentions… I did not open the doors to cabinet under the kitchen sink. I did not catch up on laundry. I did not leave the guest bathroom tub dripping. I did not turn the furnace up higher than normal. I did not get the little space heater, for the drain in the downstairs shower. I did not get up during the night once, to run ANY facet. I am annoyed at myself!
 Matthew 24:42-44 (NIV)
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”
It is sobering that, even with foreshadowing, it seems so difficult to make life’s priorities align with clear and obvious needs. I try to live each day ‘watched and ready’, yet I get distracted and preoccupied in the daily drudge of things. In this Lenten season then, I resolve to reprioritize; lest I end up dry, dirty and unprepared at an ‘unexpected hour’ and find the water of life is frozen out of my reach.
Father God, please help me to stay mindful on things that really matter and act upon them with intent. Help me to live ready for the chance to move past earth’s drudge and immerse, without hesitation, in the river of the water of life.
