Day 8 - February 22, 2018

Galatians 5:1

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1

I just finished reading the book Wild and Free by Jess Connolly and Hayley Morgan, and it was an inspiring anthem that gave direction as to how we should be living our life through Christ. Galatians 5:1 is one of the highlighted verses in the book, and I believe it sums up our calling perfectly.
Simply put, we are set free for freedom. Freedom is defined as “the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint.” As Christians who have devoted our lives to God, our goal should no longer be to act, speak, or think as we want, but it should be to act, speak, or think as He wants. The moment we start doing this is the moment we truly have no hindrances or restraints holding us back because God is freedom. We cannot categorize or put God in a neat little box like we try to do with differently parts of our lives. Our Creator spills and overflows into every aspect of our being, life, and world, and this is a beautiful thing!

When I picture freedom, I picture the wind. The fresh breeze flows effortlessly around us and through us, and it embraces the earth without shape or form. Today, strive to be like the wind, and allow yourself to glide wherever you feel called because Christ does not want you to be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Break the chains of captivity, and choose to live in the freedom of our Father.

Dear Heavenly Father,
We cannot thank you enough for the blessing of freedom, and we ask that you help us cherish this wonderful gift every day. Help us stay hungry for freedom, and give us the strength to break the chains of captivity, so we can live freely for you.

In your son’s name we pray, amen.
