Day 2 - February 15, 2018

So Small

James 1:6

“But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.” James 1:6

“In your unfailing love you will lead, the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling.” Exodus 15:13

Tucked in the prayer book was a small note, a hastily written prayer, copied from another book long lost, “Lord protect me; Your sea is so big and my boat is so small.”

In prayer the heart often asks for God’s protection, God’s guidance, God’s strength.
In prayer these words might feel small, rowing out into the sea of all that crashes and pushes.

And yet another prayer asks, may the Spirit pour generously upon us.

And so it is faith that steadies the small boat and Spirit that graces us, for it is in God and with God we are bound in this journey.

In wave or in wavering, may faith be the steady place of prayer, where asks and graces guide toward God’s work, rowing and steady in faith. All the tiny things of every day may be mighty; all the heavy of hurts, losses, doubt and mistrust may be stones in our boats; but one thing remains, faith.

God our creator and redeemer, let us be small in Your waters in the work of Lent, to seek the glory at journey’s end where faith brings us home to You through Your son, Amen.
