Day 12 - February 27, 2018

Joel 2:12-13

“Even now,” declares the LORD, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.” Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity.” Joel 2:12-13
Sometimes it seems that we cannot help but live, in these modern times, without continually ‘rended’ hearts. That does not seem like a good thing! So much we see and hear and even get involved in seems mired with hurt and drama. The world teams with injustice and the time seems so ripe for chastisement and punishment. It is good then, that God chooses to relent from sending ‘calamity,’ even when the human side in us cries out for vengeance (usually in the guise of justice.) Our God is a God of justice, fairness, mercy and redemption. Maybe this Lenten season we can move closer to that way of thinking and more wisely living out His plan. In our hearts and minds.
Patient God of promise help us to live according to your ways. In your image and your name, may we solve and not judge and cure without expectation. Heal our rended hearts and mend our tattered souls. Amen.
