Upon graduation in 1987 from Wartburg College as a 3 time 1st Team all American Off Tackle, Roger signed as a free agent with the Chicago Bears in 1987, making the team, but was released the next season 1988 at last cut. He then took a job as the DC and strength coach teaching autism kids at Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School, in Cedar Rapids, IA. Roger spent a semester as a strength coach G.A. at the University of Missouri. Where he later took a job at Northwest Mo. St in Maryville as the Defensive line and Head Strength coach for the university; the first person to have such responsibility. At Northwest he finished his Masters in Exercise Physiology and Physical Education. In Aug 1992 Roger returned to his Alma mater, Wartburg College, to be the Defensive Coordinator and Head Strength coach for the school. During his 5 years as Defensive Coordinator, Wartburg was in the NCAA Division 3 Playoffs four times and won the NCAA Collegiate Powerlifting championships twice. In July 1998, he then headed to Phoenix to be the Head Football coach at Moon Valley High; where in 10 years he won two state 4A state football titles and three consecutive National High School Powerlifting Championships.

While Roger was at Wartburg College, he spent 3 summers in Europe as the Head Coach of the Franken Knights in Frankfurt Germany, a level 1 Bundesliga team. In the late 90’s Roger made the finals of the World’s strongest Man competition as well. For a 20-year period from 1985 to 2005 Roger finished in the top 5 of the USA nationals Powerlifting competition as well as many state titles. Roger is married to Kathy Gilboy of Phoenix in 2012 and lives in North Peoria.
