Briley Rivers, MEd
Director of Campus Ministries
Instructor in Education
Briley Rivers’ connection to Ottawa University started back in 1991 when he was in the 7th grade and attending a large Christian sports camp in Branson, MO. While at camp, one of Briley’s counselors was none other than Chris Creighton, the man who would 6 years later be planted by God at Ottawa University as head football coach. In 1997, Briley was recruited by Coach Creighton’s staff to OU. While a student at Ottawa University, Briley played football and ran track. He was also a Resident Assistant in the former Price Hall. Briley graduated from Ottawa University in 2001 with a dual degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. In his final years at OU, Briley was asked to serve on the Campus Ministries Camp Team and it was in that assignment, that he and his wife Lisa (Fitch) Rivers, who graduated from OU in 2000, began dating and were married a year later. They now have a son Cody who is 9 years-old and another child on the way in Nov. 2015.
Since graduating from OU, Briley has gone on to serve others in education and ministry. He earned his Master’s Degree from MidAmerica Nazarene University in Educational Technology. Briley has taught early childhood and/or elementary education for 11 years. He is a favorite among his students and fellow staff for his fun, child-centered approach. In 2004, he entered into ministry as full-time youth pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church of Ottawa. After teaching from 2008 to 2015, Briley was thrilled to have been called back into ministry in July 2015 as Director of Campus Ministries at Ottawa University. It is his desire to see students grow to know Jesus personally just as he did through the guidance and mentorship of faculty and staff at Ottawa University years ago.
