OUAZ Baseball Announces First Roster In School History
– Ottawa University in Arizona baseball head coach Tim Montez announced his initial roster for the 2017-18 season on Friday. The Spirit’s roster has close to 40 players and ranges from true freshman to college transfers. OUAZ will compete in the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) this coming season.
"It is with great pleasure to announce our inaugural signing class for the 2017-18 academic year,” said OUAZ head baseball coach Tim Montez. “This class includes almost a 50/50 split of high school and junior college players at just about every position from all over the country, and even one from our next door neighbor Canada.”
Coach Montez continued, “They are solid student-athletes, who are tough minded both in the classroom and on the field. It is not often in a head coaches’ career where you have the opportunity to assemble an entire roster in just three and a half months, but with God's direction we managed to get it done. We have left a few remaining spots open on purpose for players who might become available later this summer. Recruiting is a never ending process, I would like to thank my recruiting coordinator Ryan Cisterna, and everyone in our athletic department, admissions and financial aid who have worked extremely hard in helping us assemble this class. Recruiting is a team effort and it's exciting to see the direction and vision our president and athletic director have not only for baseball but for the entire athletic department moving forward."
