August Turner

Turner earned letters in men’s basketball (1942-43, 1946-49) and track (1943).

He helped lead the men’s basketball team to a record of 52-27. Turner helped the Braves to three Kansas Conference Championships and two NAIA Kansas Playoffs. He was on the 1947-48 squad that played the first game in Wilson Field House on January 9, 1948.

Turner was the first men’s basketball player to earn NAIA All-American honors when he was named Honorable Mention in 1947-48. He was a three-time All-KS Conference selection, earning First Team honors in 1948-49 and 1946-47. Turner was a Second Team All-KS Conference selection in 1947-48. He was the first men’s basketball player to score over 1,000 points. Turner finished his career by scoring 1,003 points.

On the track, Turner helped the Braves to the 1943 Kansas Conference Championship. He was the 1943 Kansas Conference Champion in the 440 Yard Run.
