Dee Erickson

Charles “Dee” Erickson came to Ottawa University in 1931 from Fort Scott Community College, to become Director of Athletics. In five seasons he coached football, basketball, and track for the Braves. On the gridiron, Erickson led the OU football team to a record of 18-21-1 for a .474 winning percentage. Under his leadership, the Braves won back-to-back Kansas Conference Championships in 1932 and 1933. He coached 25 All-Conference players.

On the basketball court, Erickson led the Braves to a 42-49 record and one KS Conference title in 1934-35. He coached 11 All-Conference performers. Erickson led the Braves to a KS Conference title on the track in 1934 when the meet was hosted by Ottawa University at Cook Field. He coached 24 KS Conference Individual Track Champions and 90 All-Conference performers.

A graduate of Washburn University, Erickson left OU before the 1936-37 season to take a similar position at his alma mater. He worked at WU for 12 years as athletic director and coached both football (1944) and men’s basketball (1936-37 to 1945-46). Erickson was also the NAIA President in from 1944 to 1946.
