Grgas was a four year letterman on the soccer pitch (1968-71) for the Braves.
He led the Braves to a four year record of 55-10, three conference championships, and to three NAIA National Tournament appearances with a third place finish in 1971. Grgas was a three time First Team NAIA All-American (1969, 1970, 1971), was to the NAIA All-Tournament team in 1969, earned four First Team All-Conference team honors, and he was a two-time First Team All-Area II selection.
Grgas is ranked first in career goals (88), second in goals in a single season (25), third in single season assists (17), second (56) and third (53) for most points in a single season, and first in career hat tricks (9).
After he graduated from OU, Grgas continued playing soccer professionally. He was drafted by the St. Louis Stars and was selected to several all-star teams while with the team. In New York City, he started a semi-pro Yugoslavian team named Polet. Grgas died in 1982 when he was hit by a drunk driver and in his memory, the Mirko Grgas Soccer Tournament is held each summer in New York.
