George Von Arb

Von Arb earn letters in football (1936-39) and golf (1938-40) for the Braves.

He led OU to a record of 22-7-3 on the gridiron and was part of two KS Conference Championship Teams. Under head coach Dick Godlove the Braves won the championships in 1938 and 1939. Von Arb earned Second Team All-KS Conference honors at receiver in 1938. He also was the Braves kicker.

On the links, Von Arb won three straight Kansas Conference Golf Individual Championships (1938, 1939, 1940). He shot a 234 in 1938, a 213 in 1939, and a 217 in 1940. Von Arb led the Braves to the 1938 and 1940 Kansas Conference Team Championship.

Von Arb went on to serve 26 years in the Air Force and 14 with NASA. He was highly decorated in WWII and was awarded the American Distinguished Flying Cross, the British Distinguished Flying Cross, The French Croix de Buerre, Air Medals and the Bronze Star Medal. Von Arb flew more than 5,000 hours in a single engine, twin engine and four engine aircraft.
