Patty lettered in football (1949-52) and in men’s basketball (1952-53).

In his four years as a member of the OU football team, the Braves had a record of 26-10 playing for head coach Dick Peters. Patty was part of the 1950 KCAC Championship team. He was a two-time First Team All-KCAC selection at quarterback for the Braves. Patty was co-captain of the 1952 OU football team.

Patty was a member of the 1952-53 OU men’s basketball team that went 20-3, winning the KCAC Championship. The Braves qualified for the Kansas NAIA Playoffs that season. From 1964 to 1975, and from 1983 to 1988, Patty maintained close ties with Ottawa University as he held such positions as assistant professor of English, director of development, director of university relations and assistant to the president, and vice president for university advancement. He also served as a member of the OU Board of Trustees.
